Giancarlo Stanton punishes Rockies again

The Rockies haven't learned yet not to pitch to Giancarlo Stanton or if you are going to try, make him chase pitches out of the strike zone.

Stanton made the Rockies pay again with another homer, a three-run blast in the first inning. Yes, it is the big leagues but when you struggle to get people out and they continually hurt you, you stay away from them. Stanton is not the only nemesis the Rockies have failed to learn this lesson against.  

He has now homered in six-straight games at Coors Field. 

Jose Reyes drove in three runs too in the Marlins' victory.

Tyler Colvin finished with three RBI for Colorado and now has 51 in 278 at-bats. Over the course of a full season of starting, that extrapolates to an extremely productive year.

His 37 extra-base hits (17 doubles, seven triples and 13 homers) are also a high-quality stat. Colvin has proven to be an outstanding gamble in the trade with the Cubs and a strong acquisition.

Tyler Chatwood's six runs allowed in four innings was further indication that he isn't quite ready to be considered for a starting spot for 2013. The Rockies expected too much out of him this season. He was an underdeveloped prospect. 

Rockies' Prospects Spotlight

Dan Houston gave up only one run over seven innings, walking one and striking out seven for Double-A Tulsa. He's capable of such outings but he's not a starter at the MLB level. He's too hittable and there is too much fluctuation in his outings. The Rockies will eventually see him as I do, a reliever and spot starter.

Trevor Story

Will Swanner played DH on Saturday and knocked out two hits for Low-A Asheville, raising his average to .330 in a breakout season. His teammate, second baseman Taylor Featherston has elevated his play, and doubled twice and is now hitting .302. But hottest of all the Tourists is shortstop Trevor Story, who is 8-for-his-last-14 at-bats. He finished with three hits and doubled twice Saturday and now has 37 of them this season.

Outfielder David Dahl tripled, doubled and singled and drove in three runs for Grand Junction to add to his stellar debut campaign.

His teammate, Jayson Aquino allowed but one unearned run in seven innings, lowering his ERA to 2.19. It was his third positive start in four outings since being promoted from the Dominican Summer League. Aquino needs better control but right now he looks very promising as a prospect. Making the jump from the DSL to the United States is a large step that overwhelms many but to this point, not Aquino.
