Matzek leads Rockies' Prospects Parade

Tyler Matzek
High-A pitcher Tyler Matzek threw seven shutout innings, struck out 10 and walked none. Obviously, a brilliant pitched game but even more so of one considering his ERA since the All-Star break is 6.95 and considering Matzek has walked 90 batters in 130 2/3 innings. This game again illustrates the mystery of Matzek. He has big-league talent. Yet he still is so terribly flawed that he may not get there. Wrote it before, wrote it again, he's a strong boom-or-bust prospect.

Double-A outfielder Corey Dickerson hit his 11th homer for the Drillers and 20th on the season. He had nine round-trippers at High-A earlier in the summer. Dickerson now has 67 extra-base hits (40 doubles, seven triples and the 20 homers).

Low-A middle infielder Taylor Featherston doubled twice and finished with three hits at Low-A Asheville. He bumps his batting average to .304. He's hitting .350 in his last ten games with nine extra-base hits. Featherston is a player of intrigue and bears following.

Third baseman Sam Mende homered and doubled for Asheville and finished with three hits. Mende has not hit well since May (.407) but he has shown outstanding production since being drafted (47 doubles, 25 homers and 102 RBI in 149 games).
