| Tyler Anderson |
Tyler Anderson, the Rockies' no. 1 pick in 2011, threw 6 1/3 shutout innings Tuesday, striking out five and only walking one. Forget his 8-2 record for a moment.
His 2.80 ERA in 12 starts is more impressive, as is his three homers allowed in 70 2/3 innings.
He's in Low-A now at Asheville but could see Modesto this season, deservedly so, if the Rockies' want him to get his feet wet there now.

| Russell Brewer |
|
Anderson's teammate, reliever
Russell Brewer, a former 31st-round pick, continues his excellent season - one inning, no runs, two strikeouts. Brewer has a .171 batting average against, a 2.20 ERA, 48 K's in 41 innings, strikes out more than four times more batters than he walks and has allowed just 25 hits. Right-handed batters hit (?) just .143 against him.
The Rockies, obviously were insightful in drafting him as he's provided tremendous value.

| Kent Matthes |
|
Outfielder
Kent Matthes is hitting .199 at Double-A but homered twice and finished with three hits. Matthes lost some prospect credibility this season after a dominant 2011 campaign at High-A Modesto (.334 average, 39 doubles, 23 homers, 95 RBI, in 93 games) but he might still be healing from a late-season injury that ended his season. Next year will tell more the story on Matthes' stock.
Matthes also excelled last night while teammate
Josh Rutledge and Houston Astros' top prospect
Jonathan Singleton both struck out three times. It was his night.
